analysing a painting

Analysing a painting.
Written by Abbie Stokes.

'Undisturbed.' by Trace Goldsmith

The mood of this painting is very serine. It promotes peace and calm. It creates a happy, relaxed atmosphere in a room. The painting has real, yet surreal qualities, one almost likens this image to a place they have been to or seen before. However, it is hard to believe that somewhere so perfect and euphoric can and actually exists.

The composition of this piece has been well thought out. The sand dunes are relatively big, this accentuates their closeness, yet distance from the horizon. The dunes are very flat emphasizing the shallowness of the closer water. Therefore the dunes in this piece are key features in creating the illusion of distance and depth.

This painting like the others generates impact to myself through tone, abstraction and composition. With the tone there are the pastel colours and the way that they have been so softly blended. These tonal factors contribute to the way in which the painting makes me feel calm.
